BioShuffle

BioShuffle

A little robot/human mishap leads to a shake-up in the office when Dr. Bhamba's biocomputer springs a dangerous leak all over Linda's desk. We start off watching Lem and Phil as they show Ted and Linda their newest invention, a hypersonic sound emitter—or, in Lem's words, the "voice of God." Ted gives that nickname a big fat no. HA! Anyway, Linda snarkily describes how the machine helps Veridian's victims, er, customers. (Given what we've seen, how can you disagree?) As an example of its power, Lem uses it on an unsuspecting coworker to make him stop using the copy machine all the time.

Cast

Phil Mymen
Phil Mymen
Jonathan Slavin

Phil Mymen
Phil is one of Ted's star scientists. He's like Einstein, but nerdier and with worse hair. Phil can make anything from an egg that powers a car to a T-shirt that gives you a suntan. When he puts his mind to it there's nothing Phil can't do, except make his wife tolerate his existence.

As brilliant as Phil is in the lab, he is equally incompetent when it comes to life outside the lab. Luckily he doesn't spend much time outside the lab. Most of his time is spent with his lab partner and best friend Lem.

Phil is easily manipulated into going along with any of Veridian's insane whims. He's the guy who can be convinced to take a bullet in the head for the company. Someone has to test the new bulletproof hat.

Jonathan Slavin
Jonathan Slavin was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. A self-described "misfit," he found his voice at 14 when he was cast in his first play. He left Pennsylvania at 17 and spent the next three years traveling, studying and performing in New England, upstate New York and Oxford. Landing in New York, he performed in some terrible theater before being cast in "The Best of Schools" at Ubu Repertory Theater. From there he moved to Lincoln Center and then Broadway in Wendy Wassestein's "The Sisters Rosensweig," went to Dallas to do "Six Degrees of Separation" and to Los Angeles to star in the West Coast premiere of "The Destiny of Me."

After a string of "insert occupation here" guy TV roles (Flower Delivery Guy, Fish and Chips Guy, Computer Tech Guy, etc.), Slavin landed a memorable turn as "Ice Cream Guy" on Caroline in the City, and has worked in television ever since. He has appeared as a series regular on Andy Richter Controls the Universe and Union Square, and had recurring roles on My Name is Earl, Summerland, Inconceivable and Wings. Recent guest starring roles include Life, Grey's Anatomy, CSI, Ugly Betty, Friends and Bones. He has also appeared in the feature films "Hard Pill," "A Cinderella Story," "Grand Theft Parsons," "Race to Witch Mountain" and "My Mother's Hairdo."

Slavin is a longtime activist, dedicating much of his time to animal rights, and is a confirmed vegan and animal rescuer, sharing his home with four dogs, seven cats, a cockatoo and a pig named Ouisa. He has marched in more LGBT rights parades than he can count, and has twice participated in the California Aids Ride, a nearly 600 mile bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles raising funds for Aids/HIV services provided by the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center.

Slavin and his partner of 14 years live with their motley crew of "children" in Los Angeles.

Lem Hewitt
Lem Hewitt
Malcom Barrett

Lem Hewitt
Lem is a world-famous scientist. He's like Stephen Hawking but with a moustache. His best friend is his lab partner Phil. They are both geniuses who are equally brilliant (they've done the math).

Unlike Phil, Lem is still single. Lem's idea of flirting usually involves chemistry jokes ("Our nucleus charge must be increasing, because I see spin-orbit coupling in our future"), but he's still the one lab scientist most likely to sleep with an actual woman. It's even been rumored that he's actually done it.

Lem is shyer than Phil. Although Lem isn't scared of creating a nanovirus that could destroy all life on the planet, he is very scared of confrontation. This is probably because he was raised by a domineering mother who once killed a bat with a People magazine.

Malcom Barrett
Malcolm Barrett studied at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, focusing on acting and directing. A role on the series Luis brought him to Los Angeles, and since then he has appeared on a number of series as either a regular or guest star, including The Bonnie Hunt Show, Kelsey Grammar Presents: The Sketch Show, Monk, Psych, Ghost Whisperer, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Law & Order, Law & Order: Criminal Intent and The Sopranos.

Feature film credits include "My Best Friend's Girl," "Hurt Locker," "American Violet," "The Rhythm of the Saints," "King of the Jungle" and "Swimfan."

Barrett is a founding member and artistic director of the non-profit New York City theater company Real Theatreworks Inc. He received his Equity membership at the age of 16 when he appeared in the McCarter Theatre production of "The Stonemason." He later appeared in the national tour of "Wit" with Judith Light, while simultaneously continuing his education at NYU.

Barrett is also talented in poetry, improvisation and stand-up comedy. Besides becoming a member of the 2001 Nuyorican Slam Poetry team, he was the winner of the Young Playwright competition at the Manhattan Class Company.
