Racial Sensitivity

Racial Sensitivity

As a racial conflict throws a wrench in productivity at Veridian, we discover that the emotional tie between Ted and Linda isn't exactly as simple as, er, black and white. Ted laments his decision to avoid any sort of workplace romance shenanigans with Linda, despite their prior kiss. Granted, they kissed while wearing Hazmat helmets, so we're not even sure if that counts as a real smooch.

Regardless, Ted bumps into Linda at the elevator, and after an awkward hello, asks her again if everything is okay. It turns out to be bad timing for him, though, as Linda is standing there with her boyfriend, Don. Embarrassed, our hapless hero bolts out of the elevator before it even leaves the floor. Subtlety, thy name is not Ted.

Ted Crisp
Ted Crisp
Jay Harrington

Ted Crisp
Ted is senior vice-president of Research and Development at Veridian Dynamics. He's a legend in the world of R&D and leads a team of the smartest scientists in the world. Nothing is impossible to Ted. Need a pig born with honey-glazed skin? Done. Need a bathtub stain remover that doubles as a delicious cocktail? Done and done. Ted's employees idolize him and he loves developing cutting-edge technology and being part of creating the future.

The one problem with his job is that Veridian tends to be immoral, unethical and occasionally pure evil. And sometimes Ted's drive to succeed at the company causes him to blur the line between right and wrong. Luckily Ted has his precocious seven-year-old daughter Rose to keep him on the right path. He has to raise Rose by himself because his wife left them to go build dung huts in Africa.

Everyone thinks Ted is handsome, charming and smart. The world would be a better place if we could clone Ted. And that's high on the company's agenda.

Jay Harrington
When Jay Harrington isn't playing the love interest to leading ladies Teri Hatcher on Desperate Housewives or Lori Laughlin on Summerland, he can be found playing in one of the many sports leagues he's part of.

Starting on a small stage in Cape Cod, MA, Harrington knew early on he wanted to act. A triple threat (actor-singer-dancer), he graduated from Syracuse University's theater program ready to take on the acting world. He moved to New York and spent time doing off-Broadway theater before heading to Los Angeles.

In addition to the title role in Better Off Ted, Harrington has a recurring role on Private Practice and has appeared on The Inside and Coupling. Other television credits include Ghost Whisperer, Las Vegas, The Division, The Shield, Without a Trace and the Lifetime movie "Why I Wore Lipstick to My Mastectomy." His feature film credits include "Partners," "Whatever It Takes" and "Anywhere But Here."

Harrington currently lives in Los Angeles and is an avid sports fan. He plays in the NBA Entertainment League and dons skates for a local hockey team.

Veronica Palmer
Veronica Palmer
Portia de Rossi

Veronica Palmer
Veronica is Ted's immediate superior. She's a dynamic and efficient leader who doesn't let silly things like feelings or the lives of innocents stand in the way of success. She's a no-nonsense company woman who rarely lets her hair down.

In spite of Veronica's steely exterior, there are rumors that she has a softer side. Ted swears he's seen it but everyone else is dubious.

Veronica respects Ted because he's almost as smart and attractive as she is. But not quite. That's why she makes three times his salary.

Portia de Rossi
Portia de Rossi has had a widely varied career, captivating audiences in both television and film. She recently starred as a fifth-season series regular on the FX popular original drama Nip/Tuck as Olivia Lord, a holistic medicine practitioner who has problematic relationships with both her girlfriend, Julia, and her out-of-control daughter.

De Rossi starred as Lindsay Bluth Funke in the critically acclaimed Fox comedy Arrested Development. The show won a Primetime Emmy Award in 2004 for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble and was nominated for an Emmy Award in 2006 and a SAG Award in 2005. De Rossi is best known for her portrayal of enigmatic lawyer Nelle Porter on Fox's hugely successful Ally McBeal.

On the big screen, she starred in Wes Craven's "Cursed," opposite Christina Ricci, Chris Ver Wiel's "Who is Cletis Tout?," opposite Richard Dreyfuss and Tim Allen, Paul Goldman's "The Night We Called It a Day," opposite Dennis Hopper and Melanie Griffith, Wes Craven's "Scream 2," Rupert Wainwright's "Stigmata," Bruce Wagner's "Women in Film," Noah Stern's "The Invisibles" and Michael Goorjian's "Ambition to Meaning," with Wayne Dyer.

De Rossi received her first acting break in the feature film "Sirens," directed by John Duigan and opposite Hugh Grant, Sam Neill and Elle Macpherson.

Born in Australia, she currently resides in Los Angeles.

Linda Zwordling
Linda Zwordling
Andrea Anders

Linda Zwordling
Linda works for Ted in the testing department. She decides which Veridian Dynamic products are safe and which ones can kill all the fish in the sea. She's creative, independent and idealistic--all qualities Veridian would like to eliminate from their employees. She's the most rational person in the company, the first to point out the insanity of making Christmas sweaters with the unfortunate quality of occasioning eating the flesh of the wearer.

Linda is one of the few Veridian employees who sees her job as simply a job and not a life-long career. She dreams to one day publish her own children's book, the story of a stern giraffe and a precocious toaster. It may even get finished one day, if only she could get her illustrator to stop partying long enough to draw a toaster that looks like a toaster.

Ted thinks of Linda as a beautiful flower in a sea of concrete. The two have an unspoken chemistry. Chemistry that Phil and Lem have sadly been unable to recreate in the lab. Perhaps one day Linda and Ted will end up together. Hopefully before the company replaces them both with androids.

Andrea Anders
Andrea Anders is best known to television audiences for her roles as Nicole Allen on the series The Class and as Alex Garrett in the comedy Joey. Additional television credits include Law & Order, Tru Calling, Oz and Numb3rs. Her feature film credits include the road comedy "Sex Drive" and "The Stepford Wives."

Anders is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts. She received her Master of Fine Arts from Rutgers in 2001.

Born and raised in Madison, Wisconsin, she currently makes her home in Los Angeles.
